Cherished Cats provides assistance to cats in the Susquehanna Valley region, primarily Union, Snyder, and Northumberland counties, in two primary ways, rescue and TNR for community cats:

  • Rescues are generally friendly, adoptable cats or kittens in need of a forever family. While we strive to respond to every request, there are times when we’re contacted about 20-30 cats and kittens per week, and as a volunteer organization it’s simply not always possible. We appreciate your patience and understanding, and encourage you to reach out to other local organizations as well, and also to reach out to family and friends for help.

  • For community cats that are not socialized to enjoy human company, we provide financial assistance for spay/neuter in Union, Northumberland, and Snyder counties. In most cases we’re able to cover the majority of the cost of surgery and vaccines, and are able to loan humane traps. At this time we are generally unable to do the actual trapping or provide transportation to and from local clinics. Community cats should be returned to the location where they were trapped- we do not relocate cats that are not socialized.

For assistance with providing food for your cat, you can contact Arthur’s Pet Pantry, the PSPCA in Danville, or the Pet Pantry of Lycoming County for help. You can also reach out to SUN Pets for help having your pet cat spayed or neutered, as well as the PSPCA in Danville, which has a low-cost clinic. At this time we are unable to provide financial assistance for spaying and neutering or other vet bills for personally owned pets.
