Butters, and his sister, Layla, were our President's first rescue in 2005. They were living under the Women's Unit at White Deer Run in Allenwood, where she worked. It took a few weeks to earn their trust- but lots of hand feeding and patience later, they would gleefully follow her to her office when she arrived for work. After an initially botched attempt at trapping them, they were captured and spent a few days living in her tiny grad-student apartment. Butters was adopted by her boyfriend (now husband), Dave, and Layla was relinquished to the Humane League of Lancaster County. Butters, now affectionately known as Butterball (he's not fat, he's fluffy), now happily lives with his three brothers where he enjoys lounging on the couch and being brushed.
